Varney Locomotives

This is a list of every locomotive produced under the Varney name. Organized from smallest to largest and separated by types.

HO Scale Steam Locomotives

Steam locomotives in HO scale made up the majority of Varney's locomotive offerings. Some of them were produced right up to the end of use of the Varney name.

HO Scale Locomotive Tenders

Varney made a number of HO scale tenders to go with their steam locomotives. For most of production, tenders were sold separately from locomotives. This changed in the mid 50s, and locomotives like the Casey Jones 10 wheeler, Old Lady consolidation, and the super detail berkshire all came in kits with tenders included. History on exact tender production dates and all variations seems to be rather sparse. The rarest one, and possibly one of the rarest Varney items, is the prewar era streamliner tender kit.

O Scale Steam Locomotives

Varney only officially produced a Baltimore and Ohio 10 wheeler in O scale before selling the tooling, though other models were made using this tooling by General Models Corp and later All Nation. These are all 2 rail O and were made to exact 1:48 scale instead of being semi-scale like 3 rail "O gauge" models are.

HO Scale Diesel Locomotives

Varney also offered some HO scale diesel locomotives. There were a few variants of F units with different motors, drives, as well as unpowered dummy units. No diesels were ever offered in O scale.

HO Scale Electric Locomotives

Varney only ever offered 2 electric locomotives, both based on the Pennsylvania Railroad GG1.
